A complete guide on how to get Bhutan visa for Malaysian citizens/nationals.

It is mandatory to obtain e-Bhutan visa for Malaysian citizens/nationals prior to travel to Bhutan and visa fee/cost is US $ 40 per person. The e-Bhutan visa is issued only by the Department of Immigration in Thimphu, Bhutan.  No embassies or consulates abroad are authorized to issue tourist visa for Bhutan.

Drukair and Bhutan Airlines are the only two Bhutanese airlines operating flights to and from Bhutan. The fares in these airlines are kept at par. You can purchase the airline tickets through your tour operator in Bhutan (Like us). You may also book and buy the tickets online through their respective websites. However, you will not be allowed to board the flight to Bhutan at the port of entry without the e-visa.

Sustainable development fee (SDF):

The Malaysian nationals wishing to visit Bhutan have to pay US $ 100 per person per night stay in Bhutan as sustainable development fee (SDF). 

Discounts on sustainable development fee (SDF):
  1. There shall be no charge for the children up to the age of 5 years.
  2. The children between 6 to 11 years accompanied by guardians shall be given 50 % discount.

The visitors have to pay for package tour cost on top of the sustainable development fee (SDF) as follows:

  • 2 pax in a group: US $ 180 per person per night stay in Bhutan.
  • 3 pax and above: US $ 170 per person per night stay in Bhutan.

  • Solo trekker: US $ 350 per night on trek.
  • 2 pax in a group: US $ 260 per person per night.
  • 3 pax and above: US $ 225 per person per night.
Tour cost includes:
  • 3 meals a day and evening tea / coffee.
  • Transportation within the country including airport transfers.
  • Accommodation in government certified ” clean & safe” 3 star hotels. 4 & 5 star hotels need extra premium.
  • Bottled water throughout the tour.
  • English speaking local guide.
Trek cost includes:
  • 3 meals a day and evening tea.
  • Hiring of ponies / yaks.
  • Services of guide, cook, helpers.

Passport validity for travel to Bhutan from Malaysia:

Your passport should have a minimum of six months validity for travel to Bhutan from Malaysia.

Please follow 6 simple steps to obtain Bhutan visa for Malaysian citizens / nationals.

  • Book pre-paid package tour with one of the registered tour operator in Bhutan (like us). You may also book your trip with one of the international travel agency. 
  • Finalize the duration of stay (With fly-in and fly-out dates) and places you wish to visit in Bhutan.
  • Make full payment for your trip to your tour operator in Bhutan and share a copy of the wire transfer receipt.
  • You also have to send a share copy of the photo page of your passport to the tour operator in Bhutan. The photo page should be clear and the MRZ no. at the bottom of the page should be clearly visible.
  • Your tour operator in Bhutan will submit your Bhutan visa application to the Department of Immigration (DoI), Thimphu. It normally takes a week to process the e-Bhutan visa and may take longer during festival seasons.
  • The Department of Immigration, Thimphu will issue e-Bhutan visa which will be e-mailed to you by the tour operator. You may print a copy or save it in your phone and produce it if required at the port of entry.
