The annual Ura Yakchoe festival Bhutan 2024 will be held at Ura temple in Bumthang. This festival is known for its famous dance called the “Ura Yakchoe”. A sacred relic is displayed for people to receive blessing from. According to legend, an old woman sitting outside her house was visited by a lama asking for a glass of water. When she came out with the water, the lama had vanished leaving behind only a sack. Out of curiosity, she checked the sack and found the statue that is now on displayed annually. This relic has been passed on from generation and is still owned by the descendants of the woman. It is one of the most popular Bhutan festivals in central Bhutan.

Day 1.Arrive Paro and sightseeing | Altitude: 2280 m.

Day 2.Paro – Bumthang sightseeing | Mountain flight – 25 minutes | Altitude: 2600 m.

Morning – Drive to the airport for flight to Bumthang.

Meet & greet at the Bumthang Airport and drive to the Hotel.

Afternoon, visit to:

  • Jakar dzong built in 1667 by the Tibetan Lama Nagi Wangchuk.
  • Jambay lhakhang temple built in 659 AD by the King Srongtsen Gampo of Tibet. In the late october, a famous annual festival is held here and the main event is “Ter Cham” or the Fire dance.
  • Tamshing lhakhang or temple of the good message, established in 1501 by Pema Lingpa (1450-1521).
  • Kurjey lhakhang built in the 1652 by Minjur Tenpa. The body print of the Guru Rinpoche can still be seen on the rock housed in this temple.

Day 3.Bumthang – Ura Yakchoe festival 2024.

Morning – Drive to Ura and witness the Ura Yakchoe festival 2024. We also visit Ura village which is a cluster of houses and Ura temple.

In the evening, drive back to Bumthang. On the way, visit to:

  • Mebar Tsho” or “the burning lake” is located along the way to the Tang valley.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 4.Bumthang – Ura Yakchoe Festival Bhutan 2024

Morning – Drive to Ura valley and witness the Ura Yakchoe festival Bhutan 2024.

In the evening, return to Bumthang and explore the town.

Day 5.Bumthang – Trongsa – Gangtey | Altitude: 3000 m | 185 Km | Drive: 5 hours.

Morning – Drive to the beautiful valley of Gangtey. On the way, visit:

  • Trongsa dzong built in 1644 by Chhogyal Minjur Tempa.
  • The tower of Trongsa, also called the Ta dzong. It is an ancient watch tower which once guarded the Trongsa dzong. It also serves as the royal heritage museum.

Lunch at Trongsa and drive further to Gangtey.

Free to explore the beautiful glacial valley of Phobjikha valley, the roosting ground of the rare black- necked cranes in winter.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 6.Gangtey – Punakha sightseeing | Altitude: 1242 m | 75 Km | Drive: 2 hours.

Morning – Visit to the crane information center.

Then drive to Punakha. On the way, take a view of the Wangdue Phodrang dzong built in 1638 by Shabdrung Rinpoche.

Afternoon, visit Punakha dzong built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal where famous Punakha festival is held.

In the evening, hike to the imperial Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Choling monastery.

Day 7.Punakha – Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m | 76 Km | Drive: 2 hours.

Morning – Walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan built across Pho chu river (160 m).

Then drive to Thimphu. On the way, visit to:

  • Royal botanical park. A Rhododendron garden with 46 species of the plant is the theme of the botanical garden.
  • Dochu La pass (3140 meters) with 108 stupas at Dochu La pass. You can see Mt. Masagang (7158 meters), Table mountain and other mountains.

After lunch at Dochu La cafeteria, drive to Thimphu.

  • Witness archery match at Changlimithang stadium.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Day 8.Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m.
