Phuentsholing - The Gateway of Bhutan.

Phuentsholing is one of the main entry points into Bhutan from the sweltering plains of Indian state of West Bengal at 293 m. The small town is spread at the foothills of the mountains that lead into the interiors. Given its border status and linkage to India, Phuentsholing also an Industrial and business in Bhutan. It is a bustling city and has a slightly hurried pace of life. The nearest Airport is 164 kms. (4 hours drive) at Bagdogra. You can travel to the Indian states of Sikkim which is 7 hours journey and to Darjeeling which is approximately 6 hours drive. The route passes through the lush tea gardens of the British era in India.

Kharbandi Gompa (Monastery):

Rinchending (Kharbandi) Goemba is located on a scenic vantage point overlooking the Phuentsholing town below.  The Gompa houses idols of Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, Guru Rinpoche and Buddha Sakyamuni. It has lush beautiful garden with 8 Tibetan-Buddhist Stupas. One can enjoy the amazing view of the Phuentsholing town and the never ending plains of Bengal.

Zangto Pelri Park:

This Park is in the heart of the town and is basically a leisure park with kids playing around and young couples take a stroll or relax. There is a temple adjacent to this park where you can see older folks circumventing it and chanting prayers. It is a well maintained park which makes it a popular tourist spot.

Phuentsholing Viewpoint:

One of the best places to visit in Phuentsholing is Peeple Daara, at an altitude of 410 m from where you can see the beautiful view of Phuentsholing town below. Highly recommended time to visit this place is during the day when the sky is clear. One can see the beautiful Toorsa river flowing and the beautiful hills beyond Toorsa.
