Bhutan Itinerary 10 Days - Detailed:

Day 01.Arrival at Paro – Thimphu sightseeing | Alt. 2334 m | 54 Km | Drive: 1 hour.

Meet and greet at the Paro Airport (Arrival by flight to Bhutan) and drive to Thimphu.

On the way, a short stop to view Tamchog monastery built in 15th century by Thang Tong Gyalpo (Also called iron bridge builder). His surviving bridge can be seen in Eastern Bhutan (Dungsam in eastern Bhutan).

After lunch, visit to:

In the evening, visit to Tashichho dzong, seat of the national government and the central monastic body.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 02.Thimphu valley sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m.

Morning sightseeing tour includes visit to:

Day 03.Thimphu – Punakha sightseeing | Altitude: 1242 m | 76 Km | Drive: 2 ½ hour.

Morning – We drive to Punakha valley.

On the way, visit to:

After lunch, visit the magnificent Punakha dzong built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

In the evening, walk across the longest suspension bridge in Bhutan (160 m) built across Pho chu river.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 04.Punakha – Gangtey sightseeing | Altitude: 3000 m | 75 Km | Drive: 2 hours.

After breakfast, hike to the beautiful Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Choling monastery.

Then drive to Gangtey. On the way, visit Wangdue Phodrang dzong built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Note: The upper part of the valley is called Gangtey and lower part is called Phobjikha.

While in Gangtey, visit to:

  • Gangtey monastery founded in 1613 by Gyaltse Pema Thinley, the grandson of Terton Pema Lingpa.
  • Crane information centre.
  • Explore Phobjikha valley, the roosting ground of the rare black-necked cranes in winter.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 05.Gangtey – Trongsa – Bumthang | Altitude: 2600 m | 185 Km | Drive: 5 hours.

Morning – We drive to Bumthang. On the way, visit Trongsa dzong built in 1644 by Chogyal Minjur Tempa. The first two kings of Bhutan ruled the country from this dzong.

After lunch, visit Ta dzong, an ancient watch tower. The chapel inside the Ta dzong is dedicated to Trongsa Penlop Jigme Namgyal.

In the evening, drive further to Bumthang valley.

Day 06.Bumthang sightseeing | Highlight of 10 Days Bhutan Itinerary | Alt. 2600 m.

Today is the highlight of our 10 days Bhutan itinerary.

Morning sightseeing visits include:

  • Kurjey lhakhang where you can see the body print of Guru Rimpoche on a rock. The famous annual Kurjey festival is here in summer.
  • Jakar dzong built in 1667 which literally means “The castle of white bird”.
  • Jambay lhakhang built in 659 AD by the king Srongtsen Gampo of Tibet on the same day as Kichu lhakhang in Paro.

After lunch, visit to:

  • Tamshing lhakhang or temple of the good message established in 1501 by Pema Lingpa.

In the evening, we drive to Tang valley and visit:

  • Mebar tsho which literally means, “The burning lake”. It was here that the Terton Pema Lingpa discovered the treasures hidden by Guru Rinpoche in the 14th century.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 07.Bumthang – Excursion to Ura valley | 51 Km | Drive: 1 hour 40 minutes.

Morning – We drive to the beautiful Ura valley.

  • Explore the valley and visit to the Ura temple. The famous Ura Yakchoe festival is held here in the spring.

After lunch, drive back to Bumthang.  Visit Kencho Sum lhakhang and cheese factory.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Day 08.Bumthang – Paro sightseeing | By Mountain Flight | 25 minutes | Alt. 2280 m.

Morning – We drive to Badbalathang airport and fly to Paro.

Afternoon – visit Ta dzong, an ancient watch tower built in 1656 which now houses the national museum of Bhutan.

Then visit Rinpung dzong built in 1646 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. The annual Paro festival is held here at the courtyard in the spring.

In the evening, visit to a typical Bhutanese farm house.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 09.Paro – Hike to the Tiger’s nest monastery (Taktsang) | 7 Km | Hike: 2 hours.

Morning – We drive to the base of the monastery and hike to the Paro Taktsang monastery (2 hour walk – one way).

Afternoon – visit Drugyel dzong built in 1647 by the Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

Then visit Kyichu lhakhang built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan king, Srongtsen Gampo.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 10.Departure (End of 10 days Bhutan tour package):

In the morning, drive to the Paro airport and farewell.
