Day 1.Arrive at Paro and sightseeing.

Your guide and driver will receive you at the Paro airport and drive to the Hotel.

Afternoon, visit to:

In the evening, free to stroll in the town for shopping and photography.

Dinner and over night in Hotel.

Day 2.Paro – Hike to Tiger’s nest monastery (Taktsang):

Morning – Hike to the Paro Taktsang (Tiger’s nest monastery).

Afternoon – Visit Drugyel dzong built in 1647 by the great Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

On the way back, visit Kyichu lhakhang built in 659 A.D by the Tibetan King, Srongtsen Gampo.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town.

Dinner and over night in Hotel.

Day 3.Paro – Geynekha – Gur (Start of Dagala thousand lakes trek itinerary):

Today, we start Dagala thousand lakes trek itinerary. In the morning, drive to Geynekha (1 ½ hours). On the way, view Tamchog monastery built in 15th century by Thang Tong Gyalpo.

Drive further to Genekha and walk past Tsochekha village.

Packed lunch will be served. Hike to Gur crossing a suspension bridge through oak forest.

Distance: 7 km, walking duration: 4 hours, altitude at campsite: 3290 m.

Dinner and overnight in camp.

Day 4.Gur – Labatamba (Dagala trek Bhutan):

Cross the pass at 4240 m for a view of spectacular Dagala village. Pass though several herders camps enroute to the foot of the broad Labatamba valley at 4300 m near Utso lake. Camp near the lake at 4300 m.

Walking distance: 12 Km, 5 hrs, ascent 1040 m, descent 110 m.

Dinner and overnight in Camp.

Day 5.Labatamba – Panka (Dagala trek Bhutan):

The trail climbs along the western side of the lake and you can see good mountain views. From the pass there is a steep descent to another lake at 4350 m. A short distance beyond the lake leads to the valley and then to Panka at 4000 m.

Walking distance 8 km, 6-7 hours, ascent 260 m, descent 520 m. Camp at 4000 m.

Dinner and overnight in camp.

Day 6.Panka – Talakha (Dagala trek Bhutan):

We cross a pass at 4000 m, then climbs along the side of the ridge to a crest at 4270 m. From here there is a view of the Dagala range and a view of Thimphu valley, far to the north. It is then a long descent through forests to the temple and village of Talakha (3080 m).

Walking distance: 8 km, 6-7 hours, ascent 180 m, descent 1100 m. Camp at 3080 m.

Dinner and overnight in camp.

Day 7.Talakha – Chamgang (End of the Dagala thousand lakes trek Bhutan) – Thimphu:

Today is the last day of Dagala thousand lakes trek Bhutan. We walk downhill on a steep trail to Chamgang (2640 m) from where the vehicle will pick you up and drive to Thimphu.

In the evening, free to stroll in the town.

Dinner and over night in Hotel.

Walking distance: 6 Km, 3 hours, 440 m descent.

Day 8.Thimphu sightseeing | Altitude: 2334 m.

Morning sightseeing includes:

  • National memorial chorten (1974) built in honor of the late King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
  • Dupthop lhakhang, the oldest and one of the few surviving nunneries in Bhutan.
  • National library, stocked with ancient Buddhist manuscripts.
  • Painting school where traditional art is still kept alive through instructions in the art of painting thangkas.

Afternoon, visit to:

  • Tallest statue of Buddha in the world (51.5 m) at Kuensel Phodrang park.
  • Witness archery match at Changlimithang.

In the evening, visit Tashichho dzong, seat of the national government and the central monastic body. The annual grand Thimphu festival is held here in early autumn.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 9.Thimphu – Punakha sightseeing – Thimphu | 76 Km | Drive: 2 hours.

Morning – Drive to Punakha valley via Dochu la pass (3140 m). A short stop at the Dochu la pass to view higher Himalayas. The colorful annual Druk Wangyel festival is held here on the 13th December

Drive further to Punakha. On the way, visit Chimi lhakhang built in 1499 by Lama Drukpa Kuenley, popularly known as “The divine madman”. The temple is also known as “the temple of fertility”.

Afternoon – Visit to Punakha dzong built in 1637 by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal.

In the evening, drive back to Thimphu.

Dinner and overnight in Hotel.

Day 10.Thimphu – Paro (Departure):

After breakfast, drive to the airport and farewell.

Are Indian nationals allowed to do Dagala thousand lakes trek?

No.., Indian nationals are not allowed to do Dagala thousand lakes trek even if you book your trip with local tour operators. Trekking in Bhutan is permitted for Dollar paying tourists (International tourists) only. The regional tourists (Indians, Bangladeshis, Pakistanis and others) will not be issued trekking permits. However, you can do day hikes likes Taktsang, Cheri monastery hikes and others.

Are back packers allowed for Dagala trek Bhutan?
