Bhutan’s only international airport in Paro caters to the needs of the visitors coming in by flight. However, there are domestic flights to Yonphula in east, Gelephu in south and Bumthang in central Bhutan. The Paro International airport is located at an elevation of 2280 m above sea level.

Drukair and Bhutan Airlines are the only airlines operating flights in Bhutan. They fly to and from New Delhi, Kolkata, Bagdogra, Gaya, Guwahati, Kathmandu, Dhaka, Bangkok and Singapore. The international airport codes are below:

The flights between Paro and Kathmandu are the most exciting ones. The aircraft flies over four of the five highest mountains in the world. If the weather is good, you can enjoy the spectacular view of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and Kanchenjunga.

Baggage allowances in Bhutan flights:

Travel by Land:

Tourists can also enter Bhutan from Phuentsholing and Gelephu in the south and Samdrup Jongkhar in the south eastern Bhutan. These are the only land border areas open for International tourists. Phuentsholing is located approximately 180 Km from Bagdogra airport near Darjeeling. The time travel between Phuentsholing and Thimphu for the 157 Km stretch is about 5 hours.

Samdrup Jongkhar is the only entry point in south eastern Bhutan. The town is approximately 150 Km from Guwahati, the capital of Assam, India and takes about 3 hours drive. Tourists entering Bhutan through Samdrup Jongkhar will take you to Trashigang. There is a lateral route to Mongar, Bumthang, Trongsa, Wangdue Phodrang and then finally into capital, Thimphu. The distance is about 700 Km and it takes minimum of 3 days to reach Thimphu.

    • 15-20 days – 20 % of the cost + US $ 40 (Administrative charges).
    • 10 – 15 days – 50 % of the cost + US $ 40 (Administrative charges).
    • 10 days – 1 week – 75 % of the cost + US $ 40 (Administrative charges).
    • Within 1 week – No refund will be made.
